Donatien Alphonse François de Sade (1740-1814), best known as the "Marquis de Sade", was a French aristocrat, politician, writer and philosopher. He was an advocate of the idea of absolute freedom that would not be limited by morality, religion or law. The word "sadist" is named after the Sade and was coined by Richard von Krafft-Ebing in 1886. It is meant to experience the enjoyment of another human or animal's suffering.

The Sade lived in turbulent times in France and could not spread their political or philosophical ideas freely without the risk of being beheaded by the French Revolution. Therefore, under the guise of erotic novels, he brought a deep outlook on life to the public, which has now been forgotten and a fraction of his name remains.
