Arthur Machen's The Hill of Dreams has been called both the most beautiful and the most decadent book ever written in the English language. This is the story of the young Lucian Taylor who is haunted by strange dreams and visions after staying in an old Roman castle ruin. The seemingly solid seams of reality soon begin to crack and Lucian disappears into the world of fantasy.

Lovecraft named Machen one of the foremost horror writers of all time; Arthur Conan Doyle considered him a genius, and Stephen King, Clive Barker, H.G. Wells, Jorge Luis Borges and Arthur Miller have all attested to Machen's importance to their writing.

This is the first Swedish edition of The Hill of Dreams, and it also contains Machen's prose poetic tableaux Ornaments in Jade and an unpublished introduction by the author, as well as comments, afterwords and a newly written foreword by the translator Arthur Isfelt.
