It is said that Alejandra Pizarnik's death was as well-directed as a classical theater – in her own macabre style of course; and it is said that her friends found her dead body in her study on Calle Montevideo in Buenos Aires, on September 25, 1972, surrounded by disemboweled dolls with painted faces. And on the blackboard she is said to have chalked her last words to life, to language and to Isidore. The burden of thirty-six years and the poison of fifty Seconal tablets would finally make her fall asleep, after years of chronic insomnia. Today she is considered one of the absolute greatest Spanish-speaking female poets.

This edition is the first full Swedish selection of Pizarnik's poetry and prose. The book also contains an introductory afterword by the translator Maria Nääs.
