Renée Vivien's short stories and poems have always been subversive. They are radically feminist and just as radically feminine. Her stylistic virtuosity is combined with a vivid and vaguely disturbing imagery that has no equivalent in the history of literature. In From Green to Violett she sings of the two greats of her poetic universe: Woman and Death. She draws inspiration and motifs from decadence, antiquity and fairy tales. It is as challenging to read her prose poems in Baudelaire's footsteps today as it was when they were published in 1903.
The prose poems are translated by Hillevi Norburg, who also provided the edition with a preface and comments.
