Mardrömsboken (The Book of Nightmares) is a series of letters (the last one dated just a few weeks before his death), in which Lovecraft describes his nightmares in great detail and personally. Perhaps we do not get closer to him than in these letters. It is no exaggeration to claim that most of Lovecraft's short stories in one way or another have their origin in his rich dream world, which these letters show with all desirable clarity. Several of them are almost like short stories in themselves.
